Sterling Ranch’s CitySafe™ system recognized as one of the 50 most innovative projects around the globe
CitySafe™ by Denver-based LED Supply Co., was recently honored as one of the 50 most influential and innovative projects around the globe for the implementation of the system at Sterling Ranch, Colorado’s 21st Century Community. The award was presented at the recent Smart Cities Connect conference and expo. The Smart 50 Awards, in partnership with Smart Cities Connect, the Smart Cities Connect Foundation and US Ignite, annually recognize global ‘smart cities’ projects, honoring the most innovative and influential work (www.smartcitiesconnect.org).
Sterling Ranch, a 21st century master-planned community providing residents with an innovative and amenity-rich place to call home, implemented CitySafe™. Upon completion, Sterling Ranch will include approximately 12,000 homes on thousands of acres of land, making the safety system an important feature for years to come.
The award was presented in the Urban Infrastructure category, for the community’s wireless control and mass notification system. Named CitySafe™, the system provides residents with security, weather, safety and maintenance alerts. It is comprised of technical hardware that allows the system to reach the community fast and effectively.
“We’re very proud to partner with LED Supply Co., and to be the community implementing this incredibly innovative and valuable technology. To have it recognized as a global leader in innovation and technology is a tremendous honor, especially from an organization as influential and knowledgeable as Smart Cities Connect,” said Brock Smethills, COO of Sterling Ranch. “CitySafe™ was carefully put into place with safety and the Sterling Ranch community at the forefront of our planning and efforts. It is able to effectively send out mass notifications in large public spaces, keeping our residents informed and safe. It has the ability to connect a community in a way that no other technology product has been able to do at this scale.”
CitySafe™ was designed to provide lighting control for outdoor street lights within neighborhoods and city streets. Additionally, it provides audio and visual mass notification for general announcements, alerts, and emergency situations. The system allows city managers, law enforcement, and emergency service personnel, to communicate quickly to city residents. CitySafe’s™ wirelessly controlled speaker provides audio notification, an LED RGBA beacon provides visual notification for specific events (i.e. amber alert, severe weather), and an optional lighting component provides high quality LED illumination for secure street lights. This is enabled by the unique fiber optic network that provides fiber to each home and delivers one gig of data up and down. It is the only network of its kind in the region if not the country.
Managers for Sterling Ranch are able to efficiently manage assets over large geographic areas, control and monitor luminaires remotely, and will receive warnings when luminaires are damaged or approach their end of life cycle. There is a scheduling app that is able to configure on, off, and dimming control for individual and groups of lights and real time alarms can be delivered immediately through the system. Dynamic maps display each luminaire and its parameters, including optional overall power consumption. The managers can also access energy-savings analyses and detailed failure analysis reports. These reports and notifications can be used for ongoing maintenance of poles and fixtures.
